This week was not as productive as I would have wished but I was able to get some things done. This week was a little crazy, I was placed with Imaging/ Radiology and I had emailed them on Sunday. She was not able to get back to me until Tuesday, which threw me off a little for clinical. This week started Easter break on Friday, meaning we did not have class. Yay going home! I was able to get into the imaging on Wednesday night from 3:45 to 9:30.
We started off the night with an older man that had a potential stroke and ended off the night with a woman who had a stroke. Looking through their images was very neat, being able to see the actual black spot where the oxygen was cut off from her brain. The first man was very unresponsive, however he did not have any spots from his images. The range of patients was very large; we scanned a variety of things from a hand to a brain and a shoulder. The most interesting part of the night was an older man in his 60’s, he was having shoulder pain, and his doctor ordered MRI images. The shoulder takes about 30 minutes in the machine. When the man walked into the room he immediately looked into the tube then looked at the tech and said “no way”, there was no way he was going in the tube. He sat on the bed asking a bunch of questions, like how far in he was going to go and how long he would be in the tube. They were able to show him how far in he was going to go and he freaked out even more. He came out and said “no way!” He then asked if he could have his wife in the room with him, she was able to stand as his feet. After about an hour, his wife finally convinced him into going in. He shook, THE WHOLE TIME!!! I loved being able to experience imaging; however I don’t think I would be able to sit in a dark room 11 hours a day! I can’t sit still for more then an hour; I would be jumping around the room by lunch. I was there for 5 hours and 45 minutes, so I need 15 more minutes of clinical experience and need 20 more minutes at the PT clinic. So I will be getting that done this week.
As I said at the start, this week was a little slow and hectic so I was not able to get any more attempts or masteries. However I should be able to get back on track after Tuesday. After my presentation and paper are turned in for Gen Med and GWIC.
